AI Watermarks and Detectors: What Actually Trips the Flag

Watermarks, token patterns, and the tells detectors look for — and the rewrite pass that removes them.

What detectors look for

Most don't read a hidden watermark; they model style. Uniform sentence length, predictable transitions, and low "surprise" per word are the tells. Watermarking exists in research models but rarely in the tools you use daily.

The rewrite pass

Vary sentence length hard. Swap abstract nouns for concrete ones. Break the "first, second, third" rhythm. None of this changes meaning; all of it changes the statistical fingerprint.

Verify, don't trust

Run the result through two detectors. If both say human, ship. If one still flags, another pass on the flagged paragraph.
